On Intelligence by Jeff Hawkins
On Intelligence by Jeff Hawkins was most recently selected as the winner of the 2005 Rave Awards by Wired Magazine. Hawkins is well known as the co-founder of Palm Computing and Handspring Inc. and the architect of many handheld devices including the PalmPilot, Visor, and Treo. Hawkins has also spent years studying neuroscience and is the Director of the Redwood Neuroscience Institute.
In On Intelligence, Hawkins describes a theory of intelligence and how the brain works. Hawkins stipulates that what makes the human brain so powerful is its ability to predict, and that understanding this brain theory is crucial in creating machines that are truly intelligent. Technologists and business managers who are interested in creating new, smart business applications will find this book very intriguing. Hawkins' most recent business venture Numenta is based on the ideas explored in On Intelligence!
